The Future of Renewable Energy

Flotation Energy is determined to play a leading role in the move to renewable energy.

Flotation Energy’s core skill is the development of new offshore wind projects. They can do this on their own but prefer working in partnership with other developers. Flotation Energy are well connected within the offshore industry and have proven experience in forming and delivering successful project partnerships.

What Flotation Energy Do

The Flotation Energy team are leading experts in floating and fixed offshore wind developments and have been at the heart of the offshore wind industry over the last twenty years. They have developed some 3GW of fixed offshore wind, and more recently, the 50MW Kincardine Offshore floating project, that saw the construction and operation of the world’s largest floating offshore windfarm in 2020.

The project was initiated in 2013 by Allan MacAskill and Nicol Stephen, who subsequently partnered with Grupo Cobra, part of the ACS Group, in 2016. The first 2MW turbine was installed in September 2018 and the remaining five 9.5 MW machines installed thereafter.

In 2022, Flotation Energy was acquired by TEPCO, Japan’s largest utility, allowing the business to continue its strong growth and further an extensive development portfolio.
