Grid Connections Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Grid Connections Manager to join our team and contribute to the success of our renewable energy projects. Within the context of renewable energy projects in the UK and under the supervision of the UK Commercial Director:
Based out of our brand new Ringwood office, the Grid Connections Manager will lead the connection of new grid connections as part of new renewable energy project development and construction.
This role will work closely with several teams including the wider Origination team, Development and Deployment, Procurement, Construction and O&M, as well as external consultants, NESO, TNO, DNO, ICP EPC.
You will co-ordinate activity of internal and external teams to ensure timely grid connections, and handover to construction and operation teams.
Evaluation of transmission and distribution opportunities and constraints, pricing, curtailment risk to support greenfield project development.
Act as key account manager with NESO and the various TNOs and DNOs and attend stakeholder meetings and stay informed of market changes in terms of system and resource outlooks.
Mange the various grid connection offers, security statements and design work.
Demonstrated success at meeting deadlines and able to deliver on SMART objectives.
Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical people and the use of active listening skills is a key requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with leadership and internal/ external stakeholders to grow the company’s portfolio through the identification of new transmission and distribution opportunities throughout the UK
The Grid Connections Manager will travel between Boralex’s UK offices in England and Scotland and development sites with limited travel to France for corporate events.
Supporting projects in origination, development, deployment, construction and ensuring projects are commissioned and exporting power as early as possible
Close liaison with the Development and Deployment team and BESS Business Manager
Assist our Construction team with the review of contractor’s designs, studies, installation and commissioning schedules to make sure grid connection activity does not delay project construction and energisation
Ensure design interfaces are clear, optimised and fully wrapped in the suite of grid connection contracts
Review of 3rd party reporting and commission schedules on a regular basis, and optimise to deconflict construction and commissioning activities
Manage our portals, applications and submissions
Monitor tariff and policy changes and track key network upgrades in the targeted markets
💡 To succeed in this position, you need:
Proven experience, ideally with minimum 7+ years’ experience in grid connections
Strong understanding of transmission and distribution grid operations throughout the UK
Experience within renewable technologies specifically wind
Worked within a Renewables Company, DNO, IDNO or ICP environment is desirable
Working within the Origination team although the role will transcend into Development and Deployment, and Construction
Existing grid connection experience for renewable energy projects is essential
Experience of project origination, development, deployment, construction and operational engineering activity
Degree qualified in electrical engineering (or similar)
Significant experience in the electricity transmission and distribution fields
Technically astute, with a good understanding of the grid connection process from beginning to end
Capable of identifying potential areas of search for grid connections
A clear communicator who can partner multidisciplinary teams, in-house and externally to have the impact we need to deliver our ambitious goals
Able to review technical and commercial proposals, tenders and negotiate technical elements of contracts
Understanding of the safety rules and controls necessary to build, commission and energise utility scale electrical generation plant, and oversee the work of others adhering to safety rules
