External Affairs Manager

Ventus are seeking an experienced and strategic External Affairs Manager for a growing onshore renewables developer. The role will be to lead policy, stakeholder, and community engagement across a portfolio of onshore renewable energy projects in Scotland.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Policy & Government Engagement:
    Lead the company’s engagement with government, regulatory bodies, and industry associations to influence and respond to policy developments relevant to the onshore renewable energy sector.

  • Stakeholder Relations:
    Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with external stakeholders including local authorities, MSPs, MPs, community groups, NGOs, and industry partners.

  • Reputation & Brand Management:
    Enhance the company's reputation and visibility across Scotland as a responsible, forward-thinking renewable energy developer. Represent the company at industry events, public forums, and roundtables.

  • Community Engagement Support:
    Collaborate with Community Managers and project teams to ensure community engagement is meaningful, consistent, and supportive of project delivery. Support the negotiation and communication of community benefits, including Shared Ownership where applicable.

  • Policy Representation:
    Attend and actively contribute to industry working groups and consultations, particularly those led by the Scottish and UK Governments, RenewableUK, and Scottish Renewables.

  • Media & Communications Oversight:
    Support the development and delivery of public relations and communications strategies, including media engagement, social media planning, and stakeholder updates.

  • Strategic Advice & Insight:
    Act as an advisor to the leadership team, providing insights into the political and regulatory landscape and recommending strategies that align with business objectives.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in external affairs, public policy, stakeholder engagement, or a related field, ideally within energy, infrastructure, or regulated sectors.

  • Strong understanding of the political, policy, and regulatory landscape in Scotland and the UK, particularly in relation to renewable energy.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly for a range of audiences, from policymakers to the public.

  • Confident public speaker with experience representing an organisation at events, meetings, and consultations.

  • Collaborative team player with strong emotional intelligence and the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage risk, anticipate external developments, and influence outcomes.

  • Degree in politics, communications, environmental studies, public affairs, or a related discipline (desirable but not essential).
