Role Summary
Working with a team of grid connections experts and engineers, this role will take responsibility for shaping and delivering successful grid connection outcomes for a GB-wide portfolio of renewable energy assets, from early site identification through to construction and delivery. The role holder will become an integral part of multi-disciplinary project delivery teams; and will therefore be best located close to the main GB offices in Edinburgh or Glasgow, where both hybrid and fully office-based working is supported.
This role will suit an enthusiastic and organised individual, someone driven to make a difference in tackling decarbonisation as part of a team. The role holder will be expected to have an eye for detail, to be professional and tenacious in following-up outstanding tasks, with a willingness to work flexibly and to prioritise in accordance with the needs of our renewable energy projects. Deep subject matter expertise is not assumed, but a willingness to learn from our experienced team is essential.
Role Responsibilities
• Reporting to the UK Grid Connections Manager, manage the successful delivery of grid connection outcomes for utility-scale wind, solar and storage projects in GB, with scope for involvement in other technologies and international projects as the need arises.
• Liaise with relevant network companies (DNOs, TOs, NESO) to optimise grid connection solutions, maximise project value and mitigate connection risks.
• Manage the grid application process and queue management process for assigned projects.
• Manage grid-related contracts, ensuring key milestones and obligations are understood and tackled by the relevant project team, and support the UK Grid Connections Manager in accurately capturing project grid liabilities.
• Provide technical assistance during project development and construction. Ensure the factors
influencing and influenced by the grid connection are considered.
• Support the optimisation of project connection design and cost; including connection feasibility, design optioneering and delivery model assessment.
• Ensure that project designs meet all the technical grid code compliance requirements, liaising with the relevant specialists.
• Review any network restrictions or curtailment analysis to assess the export constraints over the life span of a specific scheme.
• Project responsibilities will be matched to experience, with opportunities to learn and develop
alongside the team of highly experienced grid specialists.
The ideal candidate demonstrates:
• Commercial awareness and contract management acuity.
• High degree of organisation and crisp communication skills.
• Project management experience.
• Familiarity with electrical power systems and regulated procedures are sought, specifically:
• GB grid connection process and related electricity regulation.
• Grid charging and transmission cancellation charges.
• High-level power system design.
• Technical features of transmission and distribution networks.
• Experience of working with regulated network companies or other utility businesses.
• Degree-level education in a suitable technical subject.
